Your Honeymoon Doesn't Need to Cost Rs 8 Lakh

Every travel agent in Ahmedabad will quote you Rs 6-8 Lakh for a Europe honeymoon. Same hotels, same flights, 3x markup.

I planned this 12-day route for couples who want romance, not rushing. We skip boring cities and focus only on the most romantic places: Paris sparkling at night, Santorini sunset from a private balcony, Venice gondola at golden hour, and a Swiss chalet with just mountains and you.

This itinerary is 12 days, not 15 — because on honeymoon, you need slow mornings, not 6 AM trains.

Days 1-4: Paris - Where It All Begins

Why Paris for honeymoon: No city does romance effortlessly like Paris. You don't need to pay for it.

Stay: Not near Eiffel (tourist trap). Stay in Le Marais — boutique hotels with balconies for Rs 8,000/night. Hotel Caron or similar. Morning croissant from the bakery downstairs, evening wine on balcony.

Romantic things that are free:

• Pont Neuf at 9 PM — this is where your hero image was taken. The Eiffel sparkles, Seine reflects gold (brighter reflection as you edited). Bring a small Bluetooth speaker, sit on the wall. No restaurant beats it.
• Luxembourg Gardens picnic — buy cheese, baguette, wine from Monoprix for Rs 800 and lie on the grass for hours.
• Montmartre at sunrise — before tourists, just you and painters.

One splurge worth it: Seine dinner cruise not at night (Rs 12k, average food). Do Vedettes de Paris at sunset for Rs 2,500 — same view, you can talk.

Budget: Paris 4 nights = Rs 55,000 for couple (stay + metro + food + entries).

Days 5-7: Santorini, Greece - The Honeymoon Poster

Flight Paris to Santorini via Athens on Transavia — Rs 12,000 per person if booked 60 days early.

This image is the dream — private blue balcony, caldera view, sunset just for two. You don't need Oia's Rs 30,000/night hotels. Stay in Imerovigli — same caldera, half price, fewer crowds. Hotel with infinity pool: Astra Suites or similar, Rs 12,000/night in May or September (best honeymoon months — warm but not burning, sunset perfect).

Romantic itinerary:

• Day 5: Check-in, nothing. Just sunset from your balcony with wine.
• Day 6: Ammoudi Bay — walk down 300 steps, eat fresh octopus at a taverna literally on the water. Evening: Oia for sunset but go to the old castle ruins, not the main street — better view, less crowd.
• Day 7: Private catamaran sunset cruise — Rs 8,000 for couple including BBQ and open bar. This is the #1 honeymoon activity in Greece.

Hack: Santorini is small. Rent an ATV for Rs 1,800/day — more fun than car, you can park anywhere.

Total Santorini: 3 nights = Rs 65,000 for couple.

Days 8-9: Venice, Italy - Lose Each Other On Purpose

Flight Santorini to Venice via Athens — Rs 10,000.

Venice is made for honeymooners who love getting lost. No cars, just canals.

Stay in Cannaregio — local neighborhood, Rs 7,000/night, 10 minutes to Rialto but quiet at night.

This gondola image at sunset — you can have it. Don't pay Rs 8,000 for gondola. Here's the hack: Go at 6:30 PM sunset, negotiate to Rs 4,500 for 30 minutes from a quiet canal near San Toma, not San Marco. Add a rose (gondolier will give). Tell him it's honeymoon — they sing for free.

Day 8: Get lost. Seriously. No map. Find a bacaro (wine bar) with cicchetti (small snacks) for Rs 200 each. Rialto market in morning.

Day 9: Burano island — colorful houses, lace shops, perfect photos. Evening train to Switzerland (overnight, saves a hotel night).

Days 10-12: Swiss Alps - Your Private Mountain Ending

Why end in Switzerland? After Paris party, Santorini sun, Venice chaos — you need silence.

Base in Grindelwald or Lauterbrunnen, not Interlaken. Wooden chalets, cow bells, Alps filling your window. This image — couple looking at mountains — is every morning.

Stay: Mountain Hostel or Eiger View Airbnb — Rs 9,000/night but kitchen included. Cook breakfast together looking at Eiger North Face.

Day 10: First Cliff Walk, Bachalpsee Lake — 1-hour easy hike to a lake that perfectly mirrors the mountains. Best couples photo spot in Switzerland.

Day 11: Jungfraujoch is Rs 18,000 for couple — skip unless you must. Do Schilthorn (Piz Gloria, James Bond revolving restaurant) for Rs 7,000 — same 360-degree snow view, lunch with view.

Day 12: Take train to Zurich, fly back to India from Zurich (direct to Delhi on Swiss Air Rs 32k).

Total Switzerland: 3 nights = Rs 60,000 for couple.
